Moyes calls on Masuaku to up his game ahead of Stoke clash

Read Sport
West Ham boss David Moyes has called on defender Arthur Masuaku to show more against Stoke City on Monday night. The DR Congo wingback has impressed this season, and was superb against Southampton on his return from suspension a fortnight ago, assisting Marko Arnautovic's goal. However, he was disappointing against Chelsea last weekend, when the Hammers drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge, in what may have been a crucial point in the club's fight to avoid relegation. The former Olympiakos defender was banned back in January for spitting at Wigan midfielder Nick Powell in an FA Cup fixture, which would see him miss the best part of three months before making his return. With David Moyes' side only winning once in his absence, his lack of presence was sorely felt, and now Moyes has challenged him to bring that level back to the London Stadium. Moyes said; "No doubt we have missed him." "I thought he did very well in his first game back against Southampton, I thought in his last game I was hoping for more." "Maybe it was getting back, adrenaline gets you through the first game so I am hoping for a bit more from him against Stoke than he showed against Chelsea, more like the Southampton game."... read more

Benitez confirms Magpies will pursue permanent deals for loan players

Read Sport
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez has suggested that the club will try to pursue permanent deals for loan duo Martin Dubravka and Kenedy at the end of the season. Both players who joined in January have proven to be real hits on Tyneside, with the Slovakia international goalkeeper having usurped Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow in goal for the Magpies since signing from Sparta Prague. Kenedy has also been impressive, with the Brazilian finally having got a string of games under his belt, having struggled for minutes with Chelsea and on loan with Watford last season. Such is Kenedy's form impressive, he has been linked with a number of high profile moves this week, including links to Bayern Munich, PSG and Arsenal. Newcastle will also have to run the rule over loan striker Islam Slimani, who due to injury has struggled to make much of an impact since signing on loan from Leicester in January. When asked about whether the club would pursue permanent offers for any of the aforementioned players in the summer, Benitez had this to say; "We will try to our best to keep players if they are doing well and have more experience in the Premier League." "Now it's too early and the target is to get 40 points and then start thinking about the future. We will see." Benitez has also credited Dubravka and Kenedy's influence on improving Newcastle's form, claiming the added competition for places saw a marked improvement across the board. He continued; "In January, when we brought in Dubravka and Kenedy, they were giving us different things - competition in different positions, and everybody was trying even harder." "I think that was a key factor, and after that, the team experience and mentality that this group have is quite good."... read more
