Aly Raisman's ex is competing for Becca's heart on 'The Bachelorette'

If one Bachelorette contestant looked familiar on Monday's premiere, it may be because he has one very famous ex. Colton Underwood made his Bachelorette debut on season 13 and many viewers and fans noticed he was the same guy who previously dated Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman. It all started when Raisman, 24, agreed to go on a double date with the former Raiders tight end in August 2016 after his former teammate Andrew East, who is married to fellow Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson, introduced them. RELATED: Becca Kufrin Recalls Her 'Crazy' First Night as the Bachelorette - and All the 'Wild Entrances' After five months, Underwood, 26, and the gold medal-winning athlete made their relationship official in December 2016 when they made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Ceremony in New York. RELATED: Will The Bachelor's Arie and Lauren Watch His Ex Becca's Season of The Bachelorette? In June 2017, Underwood told The Lincoln Journal Star that he and Raisman had broke up. "We're taking a break right now. We're still good friends and talk, but all that travel had been a nightmare," he said of their busy work schedules. "It ended fine. We're in a good place," Underwood explained, adding that the attention they garnered from the Internet "put a lot of pressure on us" but that they "had fun with it." News anchor, photojournalist die when tree falls on SUV

WYFF 4 Greenville-Spartanburg
WYFF News 4 anchor Mike McCormick and WYFF News 4 photojournalist Aaron Smeltzer died Monday when a tree fell on their SUV. The accident happened on Highway 176 in Polk County while they were covering the impact of heavy rain in that area. Video: Polk County authorities give update on accident Tryon Fire Chief Geoffrey Tennant said the engine of the SUV was running and the transmission was in drive when authorities arrived at the scene about 2:30 p.m. He said the tree that fell on the SUV was about 3 feet in diameter and had stood back off the road. Tennant said the ground was saturated and the tree's root system failed. "I have never seen an event like this one," Tennant, who has been in fire service in Polk County for 44 years, said. Tennant said he had just spoken with Mike and Aaron before the accident. "It personally affected me a little bit because I had done an interview with Mr. McCormick about 10 minutes before we got the call. And we had talked a little bit about how he wanted us to stay safe and I wanted him to stay safe and of course 10 or 15 minutes later we got the call and it was him and his photographer," Tennant said. "It's the first time I ever met either one of those two gentleman, but you feel a sense of responsibility to them." Mike joined WYFF News 4 in April 2007 as a reporter in the Spartanburg newsroom. In 2014, he was also named anchor of WYFF News 4 on Sundays at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. Mike came to the Upstate from Arkansas, where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor at one of WYFF 4's sister stations, KHBS/KHOG, for nearly three years. Mike graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in broadcast journalism and theater arts. He had two dogs, both adopted from the Spartanburg Humane Society. When he was not reporting or anchoring the news, you would find him in the kitchen. He loved using local, fresh ingredients from the Hub City Farmers' Market. Aaron was the photographer in the Spartanburg bureau. He joined the WYFF News 4 family in February of this year. Aaron shot news for more than a decade in our region. He was originally from Tazewell, Virginia, and graduated from Radford University with a degree in broadcast video communications. He was an avid baseball fan. Aaron loved traditional country music- including Keith Whitley, Randy Travis and Alabama, just to name a few. All of us at WYFF News 4 are grieving. We are a family and we thank you, our extended family, for your comfort as we mourn and as we seek to comfort the families of Mike and Aaron.... read more

Doctors reveal they did not expect Skripals to survive poisoning in Salisbury

Evening Standard
The doctors who treated poisoned Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia did not believe the pair would survive, they have revealed. Medics at Salisbury District Hospital said speaking to other staff about the attempted assassination using a nerve agent was like nothing he could have imagined in his "wildest imagination". They told BBC Newsnight about how the Skripals were rushed into their care after being found unconscious from the effects of the military nerve agent Novichok on March 4. Dr Stephen Jukes, intensive care consultant, said: "When we first were aware this was a nerve agent we were expecting them not to survive. We would try all our therapies. "We would ensure the best clinical care. But all the evidence was there that they would not survive." "We were expecting them not to survive." - Dr Stephen Jukes treated Sergei and Yulia Skripal after they were poisoned with a nerve agent in Salisbury in March - BBC Newsnight (@BBCNewsnight) May 28, 2018 Dr Duncan Murray, head of the intensive care department, said: "I spoke to the nurse in charge who had been on that night and it was this conversation I really could never have imagined in my wildest imagination having with anyone." Lorna Wilkinson, director of nursing at the hospital, said she was left wondering how big the situation would get when policeman Nick Bailey became the third person admitted in connection with the poisoning. Poisoned: former Russian spy SergeiSkripal and his daughter Yulia She said she began thinking: "Have we just gone from having two index patients having something that actually could become all-consuming and involve many casualties? Because we really didn't know at that point." The hospital's medical director Dr Christine Blanshard, told Newsnight the long-term prognosis for the trio was unknown. Yulia Skripal hopes to return to Russia Professor Steve Powis, medical director of NHS England, said: "I would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and all the other staff whose skills, compassion and dedication have saved the lives of Yulia and Sergei Skripal and Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey. "As we prepare to mark the NHS's 70th anniversary, their remarkable recovery is a timely reminder that world-class treatment and care is available at local hospitals right across the country."
